Rule 5 Solutions delivers KFE's 3rd TLA Conference with record breaking delegates!
12 Feb 2021

February 2021 saw Rule 5 Solutions organise and deliver the KFE Teaching & Learning Conference for Kent Further Education.

This year's event was the third annual conference for teaching staff delivered by Rule 5 and due to Covid restrictions it ended up the biggest ever. Over 600 delegates registered for the online conference hosted on the Remo platform. The event included several workshop options and three keynotes, including one beamed in from the USA!

Event feedback was very positive and has led to KFE's decision to make the 2022 main TLA conference virtual too. However, Rule 5 will also work with the partnership and its TLA Network to develop a series of face to face events for approximately 100-200 delegates during the 2021/22 year.

To find out more about the record breaking conference go to the KFE site's events and TLA Resources pages.

Rule 5 Solutions is pleased to confirm that it is revamping the business website. Ironically it's been over 3 years since the site was created or had a significant facelift mostly because of being busy designing and maintaining sites for other business clients!

The site will be back fully functional by 1st December 2020. #Rule5

Good luck to the team for 2020 despite the impact of Coronavirus Covid-19. It is hoped that the latter part of the season will provide a packed series of events for which team members are currently training within the limitations of social distancing and national advice and guidelines.

R5S Supported FE Recruitment Site Now Live

March 23, 2020

KFE has co-launched the 'Become a Lecturer' website with our partners in Essex and Sussex. The new website aims to support the recruitment of specialist staff into further education colleges and with other independent providers across the SE Region. Rule 5 Solutions has supported KFE and the partners in working with the web design company to refine and update the site and its content.

The website is part of a project funded by the South East Local Enterprise Partnership. The overall project has utilised bursaries to attract people working in various industries to consider working in the FE sector. It has had a special focus on hard to recruit industries. This includes roles such as lecturers, tutors and assessors. Essentially all the forms of teaching roles in education and skills.

The site can be found via the button below. It includes introductory information about the various roles in FE and a set of industry sector based videos created with the help of existing teaching staff across the region. If you want to make the jump to teaching in FE, either in a full or part time capacity, or indeed whilst still working in your industry employment check out the new site now where you'll also find useful links to the college and provider vacancy pages in your area!

Rule 5 Organises the South East's Biggest FE Skills Competition

March 16, 2020

KFE4Skills 2020, the KFE inter-college skills competition, broke all records at its 4th March event hosted by MidKent College Medway Campus.

Over 200 students competed in 26 industry competitions, supported by over 100 student helpers including models and event management public services students. A total of 104 staff helped co-ordinate and develop the competition industry specifications which ranged from automotive to welding. This year automotive was hosted at North Kent College's Gravesend campus, but all other rounds took place at the main event venue at MidKent College.

The medal tables are now published on the KFE site as are the event's finalist and medal winner photos, which were captured by our media partner KM Media Group. A total of 49 gold medals were awarded in addition to 36 silver medals and 37 bronze medals (the differences are due to various team sizes in some categories).

Rule 5 Delivers KFE TLAC20

February 17, 2020

KFE's third major Teaching, Learning & Assessment Conference took place at Mid Kent College's Maidstone Campus on 14th February. The event brought together over 150 academic staff from all four KFE college groups. TLAC20 also marked the launch of the becomealecturer website which is a joint project between Kent, Essex and Sussex further education providers. For more information visit the KFE news page.

Rule 5 Supports Apprenticeship Provider Activity

December 02, 2019

Over the summer (2019) Rule 5 Solutions has worked with three different organisations to help secure and develop their positions as apprenticeship providers. Support has been provided to an FE college, an ITP and a university institution. All of which have proved successful.

Activity has included helping two reapplications to the RoATP, an entirely new application and an application to become an EPAO and to be added to the ESFA Register of Approved Apprenticeship Assessment Organisations.

Over and above negotiating the various application requirements which vary from submissions via Bravo Solutions to more direct staged processes with the ESFA, Rule 5 Solutions has assisted all three organisations with key management processes, planning, policy and procedure drafting as well as identifying or enhancing effective QA and QI processes for each organisation.

This work follows the successful work undertaken to support the ITP NCE which also achieved successful RoATP status and active apprenticeship delivery in 2018.

FEDEC Creates New Website with Rule 5

September 30, 2019

Rule 5 Solutions has completed its second FE college partnership website. Following the success of the Kent Further Education site, the Essex Federation of FE Colleges, known as FEDEC has established its own on-line presence.

The site performs similar functions to the KFE site, profiling the FEDEC partnership and its membership organisations. The site will help promote FEDEC activities and ensure a cohesive presence that will enable stakeholders and partners to understand the nature of the partnership and the site will also enable FEDEC to ensure it has sufficient weight as a collaborative entity when considering additional project and funding opportunities.

R5S Supports KFE

November 20, 2017

Rule 5 Solutions is delighted to confirm its role in providing an on-going support service to Kent Further Education (KFE) for 2017/18. KFE comprises Kent's FE colleges, currently including Canterbury and East Kent Colleges, the three Hadlow Group Colleges, Mid Kent College and North Kent College.

The KFE support service has been delivered for much of the past 2 years by AOSEC which is subject to the outcomes of the AOC's own review but will cease to operate in its current form by autumn 2018.

Positively KFE will benefit from a service transition from AOSEC to R5S to the New Year, after which R5S will take a lead in working with the Kent colleges' principals and network groups to formulate a partnership strategy. R5S will be able to bring extensive partnership experience to KFE thanks to previously running the original KAFEC partnership of seven colleges for six years, and helping set up the East Kent Colleges' Partnership during 2015-17. It is hoped that R5S and KFE will also continue to benefit from AOSEC and its regional and national links throughout 2018 as the new AOC national structure is established.

Balance of Power Shifts with Young Entrepreneurs

August 08, 2017

The latest listing of the most influential 100 young entrepreneurs aged under 25 has just been updated. It makes fascinating reading as these sparks are so varied in their skills, experiences, interests and ambitions. It would seem that to be in the top 100 your social media profile is extremely important, but then so is the facts of what has or is being achieved.

Rule 5 Solution's Mark Hill has had the pleasure of judging Ben Towers twice and winner in 2016 in the Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA) Young Entrepreneur category. This year Rule 5 Solutions has advised Ben on one of his projects in his new venture with Zest the Agency.

Rule 5 Solutions has also had the honour of working with Jack Parsons, the Yourfeed sensation. Jack has made 'The Pledge' to connect 2 million millennials to commercial opportunities by 2020! A huge challenge, but arguably a necessary ambition if the economy is to take advantage of precisely the types of varied skills and talents this top 100 demonstrate...check out the list via the link below.

Kent & Medway Area Review Report Published

August 02, 2017

The Kent & Medway Area Review was part of the Wave 5 reviews and started in November 2016 concluding in March 2017. The report makes a number of recommendations but largely reflects much of the work and actions already in train in the county. There is one merger included for Canterbury College with East Kent College. This was delayed from its 1st August target date due to the General Election and the complexity of the merger's funding requirements from the Transaction Unit. It has been rescheduled for 31st December 2017. The Colleges most interestingly are to lead on local skills strategic collaboration in the county through the KFE colleges' partnership.

Who will be tonight's KEiBA winners?

June 21, 2017

It's just hours now before the 2017 KEiBA finalists find out who has won one of the prestigious Kent business awards. Rule 5 Solutions will be attending the awards dinner tonight having one way or another supported the success of the KEiBAs since that first nervous event way back when at Leeds Castle!

Rule 5 Solutions wishes everyone the best of luck, but it's genuinely the case that all the finalists are winners with the accolade and KEiBA experience adding business value well beyond the night itself...

Rule 5 Solutions especially wishes Niki Mahon (click on the Nikita by Niki logo to go to her site) the best for her two finalist categories. An amazing achievement just a year on from our first tentative KEiBA judging meeting in 2016. Good luck and great night everyone. The full list of finalists is at the link below.

Xperisoft's CV Minder supporting WEX!

June 04, 2017

Whilst the general election forces a pause in education policy development there's no doubt whoever triumphs this week, will continue the focus on linking 16-19 education more directly to work place experience.

The introduction of Study Programmes in FE colleges forced the work experience (WEX) agenda uncomfortably on many. Even a few years on it's patchy and not even Ofsted are clear what it really is depending on each Inspector's interpretation of the guidance or experience on the topic.

However, for now and quite possibly going forward as Skills Strategy expectations up the WEX commitment further for colleges and other providers a solution could be use of systems like Xperisoft's CV Minder which Rule 5 Solutions recently had the pleasure of experiencing.

Either stand alone or integrated with other college MIS systems it offers scope for customisation to a provider's needs based on a brief consultative assessment. It certainly can support provision of evidence for Ofsted and when operated by student focused but employer minded college staff, the impacts it can provide in terms of underpinning a WEX strategy and indeed apprenticeship growth and improvement are worth noting. There may be other systems out there, but it's certainly worth checking out CV Minder for WEX and equally their ATS product for HR / recruitment services...

Continuity, Disaster Recovery & Risk Plans

June 04, 2017

Things may have calmed down now following last week's BA chaos, but the question remains, just how many businesses large or small have effective business recovery or disaster plans and associated risk plans or risk registers?

It was truly hard to believe the mess BA landed themselves in. A business of this size dealing in an industry prone to risks and especially external risks to business continuity provided a reality check across all sectors as to whether they have viable or any Plan B scenarios...

Rule 5 Solutions has considerable experience in developing business continuity and disaster recovery plans, in addition to production of effective and manageable risk plans. First hand experience of an organisation with a financial crisis and a PR problem helped hone these skills. Added to that oversight of a developing two college partnership and production of a highly detailed merger risk register consolidated an approach focused on providing the right style, level and type of plan appropriate for organisational needs.

If it's a risk plan / register or a business continuity and disaster recovery plan, or even a PR Crisis strategy you need, look no further than Rule 5 Solutions for an affordable and effective range of solutions designed with you and for you.

Nikita by Niki double KEiBA 17 Finalist

May 17, 2017

Rule 5 Solutions is delighted to see that Niki Mahon has received two finalist nominations for KEiBA 2017. Niki has been nominated for Young Entrepreneur and Start-up Business of the Year. This is a real achievement. Niki was a finalist in KEiBA 2016 and was judged as a finalist by Rule 5 Solutions CEO Mark Hill. After judging for the KEiBAs for three years in a row Mark took a break this year so was super pleased to see that two separate judging panels agreed that Niki's business is a worthy finalist and possibly a winner. We'll have to wait until the night of 22nd June to hear if she's been lucky. Either way it's a real accolade against Kent's best competition. Check out Niki's might like what you see and make a purchase that will definitely make someone happy...Good luck Niki - Rule 5 Solutions will see you at #KEiBA17...
